'Our' Bridge

There has been a bridge across the estuary (which is part of the Solitary Islands Marine Park) since about 1968. It  connects The Waterside with the adjacent National Park leading to the approximately 5km long pristine Moonee Beach. From very humble beginnings it progressively improved until our new, present bridge was built in November 2002.

Below follows a pictorial history of the 'Tiki Bridge'.

Ca. 1970 - The present site of The Waterside is occupied by Tiki Village Caravan Park. An early rickety version of the bridge is already in place.

Ca 1985 The original bridge had been replaced some 15 or so years earlier, but wrong timbers (susceptible to rot) were used and following the Caravan Park's closure in 1988, no maintenance was done and the 'new' bridge deteriorated rapidly also.

In November 2002 constructions began to replace the 'Indiana Jones' version with our new 'Rolls Royce' one.

The new eastern approach, as it is today.

November 24, 2002. Our new and safe bridge is finished! (The following 2 pictures are courtesy of Mr. Jeff Holmes)
